I've been going to this gym for almost 7 years since I was 11 and over those years I've learned so many vaulable skills that will stick with me and help me for the rest of my life. I see coach Randy not only as a great coach but as a great mentor along with all the other coaches. This gym has changed my life for the better physically and mentally. The gym is a safe environment with great equipment and huge space for everyone. The atmosphere of the gym really lifts your spirits after each class you feel renergized and ready to take on the world. Love the gym and I know for sure newcomers will love it too. Hope to see y'all there! - 1/30/2022read moreread less - Danielle Soto
I did Muay Thai for a few years and last year decided that I should start practicing again. I LOVED my past coaches so was super hesitant to try a new place. After reading tons and tons of reviews, I checked this gym out because it seemed the most similar to what I was looking for - a gritty gym, not boutiquey or fluffy, focused on the technique and practice rather than getting a good workout. All I can really say is that is exactly what you get, plus an insane workout every time. The coaches are awesome and super helpful. You're broken up into groups based on your experience with a dedicated coach who will tweak little things you're doing wrong so you learn proper technique. Everyone, even the most experienced students, is super nice and helpful, and will offer advice to help you improve. It's such an encouraging environment, so it never feels like they're speaking down to you. The coaches are super patient and easygoing, but will call you out if you are acting out of line or being disrespectful which I really appreciate. For reference: Currently taking 3-4 classes a week plus 1:1 training with Randy. I highly recommend personal training if you want to improve quickly or focus on certain elements of your training. I've taken a few people there for their first Muay Thai class ever and they loved it, but some things you should be aware of if you're new to this style of gym: - First class is free and includes equipment you will need. Get there early so you have time to get setup and don't feel rushed before class. - This isn't a boutique fitness gym. You can rent wraps and gloves, and they have some extra shin guards, but buy your own stuff - it's easier - When you're beginning and learning how to wrap your hands, watch videos at home and give your self extra time to get wrapped before the warmup - If you have a jump rope, bring it just in case Other than that, just show up. It's a great time! - 1/30/2020read moreread less - I Ford
I cannot say enough good things about this place. My kid has attended this academy since its inception and she has gained so many skills and so much confidence through training. The instructors are professional, patient, and very kind. All the children receive help for their specific skill levels. The academy welcomes families to stay and watch the classes and I am always amazed with what I see. The kids are consistently challenged to fine tune the skills they have learned and to continuously learn more. The atmosphere is fun, but my daughter knows she is expected to work hard and she is okay with that. She has been taught by her instructors to understand that hard work pays off. I am very proud that we are a part of the Austin Kickboxing Academy and I would recommend it for any child or adult. - 1/30/2016read moreread less - Victoria Angell
This place is top notch for Muay Thai, Kickboxing, and Boxing training. The coaches really work closely with you to make sure that you are developing your technique every step of the way. They stay late, come early, and are always there to help you if you ask for it. Each class has plenty of coaches there to help you, so you never feel like you are left to your own devices. There are students with all levels of experience to help you grow and encourage you along the way. Just come prepared to give it your all and you can take it as far as you want. - 1/30/2019read moreread less - Vlad The Impaler
I have been training at AKA for over a year and a half now. This is the best Kickboxing Gym in Austin. Randy, Tessa and all of the coaches are awesome, passionate and great, knowledgeable trainers. Highly recommend this gym to people of all skill levels. - 1/30/2019read moreread less - Hannah Walker
I started training here a few years ago at the behest of my therapist, and I am so so glad I found this place! It's an amazing gym with terrific instructors! They are always working to change up the focus each month so that you can keep all your skills sharp and work on all different techniques so that you become a well rounded fighter! On top of that, the physical conditioning I've been put through has done wonders for my cardio health and physical well being. I dropped about 30lbs within the first year of working out here and now I've been steadily building muscle especially in my legs and shoulders/arms. I started working out here a depressed mess and in terrible physical health and they've done so much to help me turn that around. All the instructors are very kind, caring, and always answer any questions you have about fitness and health and other types of training. I love this gym so much - they feel like family 😀 - 1/30/2019read moreread less - Darren Hsu
5/5 Trained here for roughly ~1.5 years. Highly recommend for anybody interested in finding their next martial arts gym. Coach's are all very welcoming and create a safe environment for their members that range from competition-level to day-one gym go'ers. It's clear Randy and the rest of the coaches hold their gym to a high standard in all aspects -- from attention to their students to cleanliness of the gym. You'll for sure get a great workout every class. Good vibes environment all around, they host holiday party's and social gatherings to ensure everyone feels welcome. - 4/30/2023read moreread less - Ceilidh Smith
I love this gym! I've been training with the academy since the beginning of the summer and have felt my strength and cardio improve immensely in the few short months I have been attending classes. The coaches are great at focusing on technique and guiding you through pad work, drilling and sparring. Aside from the workout, the community at the gym is warm and welcoming; since joining I have been able to connect with other members and become friends with the people I train with. I would highly recommend this gym to beginners or advanced students! - 1/30/2019read moreread less - Jessica Ye
I've trained at AKATX for over 2 years and I cannot say enough how much I love this gym. All the coaches are very experienced and highly trained. They put a lot of focus on proper technique; they explain techniques thoroughly and provide helpful constructive criticism to help you hone your skills. The conditioning here is also amazing; the coaches really know how to push you to do your very best in every class. The classes are physically challenging, but the results are clear; I've consistently seen that our fighters have better stamina compared to fighters from other gyms. AKATX offers a free trial class and doesn't pressure you to sign up or force you to sign long contracts. The classes are split by skill level so newcomers don't have to feel intimidated and advanced students never feel stunted. Whether you're training for a fight or just trying to get in shape, the coaches support your goals. I highly recommend this gym to anyone of any skill level--as long as you're willing to take the challenge and give it your all. - 1/30/2019read moreread less
